VALENTINES is the loneliest day of the year for millions of single people in Britain, an happn study has found

12 February, 2021

More than two thirds of users of one of the world's biggest global dating app say they suffer every February 14th… but that does not stop most of them being optimistic that 2021 will be the year they find true love, with 46% pinpointing the meeting of their ‘perfect Crush’ as a goal for the year ahead.

Dating app, happn, also found that while women feel supported on Valentine’s Day, three in five (59%) users think more should be done to support men on the day of love.

Marine Ravinet, Head of Trends at happn, said: “Valentine’s Day this year is going to be different. While shop window displays are not haunting singles as they walk down their local high street, that does not mean the social media Valentine’s Day takeover with public displays of affection is not happening, and this can be tough for singles to see – particularly in lockdown! While we should constantly be checking in on each other, just make sure you reach out to those who have expressed feelings of loneliness this weekend.”

And while most singles feel they can rely on friends and family for support, they will definitely NOT accept any advice on finding love, with almost half (44%) admitting that love advice is not now, and never will be, welcomed openly… even if a lockdown Valentine’s weekend is right around the corner.

Ravinet continued: “This year, we want singles to take revenge on the day of love by inviting their Crush to an unforgettable online experience! happn users could be in with a chance of experiencing a first date unlike no other… virtually of course!”
