HAPPN is very concerned about respecting your privacy and invites you to read this Use of Cookies document to understand how HAPPN uses cookies and other trackers.

Terms starting with a capital letter and not defined in this document have the meanings of the terms defined in the Terms of Service.

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie (hereinafter “Web Cookies”) is a small text file stored on the hard drive of a user’s terminal (PC, Smartphone, etc.) when he/she visits a website. Cookies are designed to contain a small amount of data attached to the user’s terminal, and can only be read by the website server that deposited them. Cookies allow a website to provide a page customized to a specific user, to recognize previous settings and to facilitate the browsing experience. Web pages can also contain scripts that are able, thanks to cookies, to send browsing information and setting preferences from one visit to a website (or related website) to the next visit.

2. Are cookies also used on mobile applications?

Mobile applications do not use cookies. Applications use the unique identifiers of your mobile (hereinafter “Mobile Identifiers”) to identify your device. These Mobile Identifiers are stored on a user’s device and are accessible by the HAPPN Application. Partner tools have been installed on the HAPPN Application (hereinafter “Tracking tool of the application”) and collect information from these identifiers to ensure the Application is operating correctly, to allow certain features to function or for advertising or analysis purposes.

3. What are the various categories of cookies?

A cookie can be categorized based on its lifetime and domain to which it belongs.

The lifetime of a cookie is either:

  • A session cookie, which is deleted when the user closes his/her browser
  • A persistent cookie that remains stored on the hard drive of the user’s terminal for a predetermined time.

Domain refers to either:

  • Proprietary cookies which are placed by the server of the website visited that shares the same domain
  • Third-party cookies are placed by a domain that is different from the website visited. For example, these cookies can be placed when a website makes reference to a file, such as JavaScript, located outside its domain.

4. Why does HAPPN use cookies and Mobile Identifiers?

HAPPN uses cookies and Mobile Identifiers for various purposes to:

  • guarantee access and ensure the stable performance of our Services and our website;
  • personalize the users’ experience when using our Services or accessing our website;
  • track the usage and user’s experience of our Services and website;
  • measure audiences;
  • target advertising campaigns and measure the results.

Third-party websites can store or access cookies from the hard drive of your terminal when you visit our website, or collect the unique identifier of your cell phone when you visit the HAPPN Application, in order to track your browsing habits, measure audiences and/or for targeted advertising purposes.

Third-party websites can also use pixels on the HAPPN website. A pixel is a code loaded when you visit a website and comes in the form of various resources (images, JavaScript, etc.) invisible to the naked eye. A pixel collects information on the browsing behavior of users and sends this information to the server of the website that placed the pixel. These pixels also use cookies to collect information about your activity on websites. Third-party websites use these pixels to track and measure audiences or to obtain information on your interests and preferences in order to present ads tailored to your interests.

5. When are cookies deposited?

Web Cookies that are essential for HAPPN to provide access to its website and its features do not require any consent. They are stored on the hard drive of your terminal as soon as you connect to the HAPPN website from your PC, cell phone or any other device.

However, Web Cookies used for targeted advertising purposes or for audience measurements are only placed or read on your terminal's hard drive when you have given your explicit consent and/or when you continue to browse the HAPPN website after ignoring the cookie banner.

6. When are Mobile Identifiers collected?

When you install the HAPPN Application, you agree to the collection of the unique advertising identifier of your cell phone by the Tracking tools of the Application, in order to receive personalized advertising, unless you configure your terminal to object to such targeted advertising (see “Managing your cookies and Mobile Identifiers”). Equally, by installing the HAPPN Application, you agree to the use of your Mobile Identifiers for audience measurement purposes.

Consent is also not required for other uses of Mobile Identifiers when they are essential for the operation of the HAPPN Application, as their use is required to guarantee access to and the stable functioning of the Services.

7. What are the various features of cookies?

Mandatory cookies (for example, see below SECURITY and SYSTEM cookies): these may be used for authentication or security purposes. They are mandatory for the operation of some features of the website or the HAPPN Application, and for security reasons.

Functional cookies (for example, see below LANGUAGE cookies): these cookies improve and optimize the users’ experience on the HAPPN website by, for example, remembering the preferred language of users when they browse the website.

Advertising cookies (see below ADVERTISING cookies): these cookies collect information about your browsing habits and interests in order to offer you relevant ads.

Audience-measurement cookies (see below MEASUREMENT cookies): they are used to obtain information on the browsing history of users, to analyze traffic on the website or the HAPPN Application and for audience measurement purposes (for example, cookies collect information on the pages visited (number of visits, etc.). Information collected is anonymized and aggregated, which allows us to improve the functioning of our services.

By continuing to browse the HAPPN website, you agree to the creation and use of all Web Cookies listed in this document. However, you can refuse/disable these Web Cookies at any time, with the exception of Web Cookies required for the stable operation of the website.

Regarding proprietary cookies that are not required for the operation of the website, you can disable them by following the procedures detailed in the list of Web Cookies above. Our partner websites provide a step-by-step procedure showing how to refuse their cookies.

In addition, you can refuse most behavioral advertising cookies via the following links:

For third-party cookies, you can configure your browser settings to refuse third-party cookies.

Comment for pixels: the operation of pixels generally depends on cookies. You cannot refuse pixels; however, when you refuse cookies, pixels are unable to collect information from these cookies.

WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT BLOCK AND DISABLE ALL COOKIES IN YOUR BROWSER’S SETTINGS. In fact, if you block all cookies, our website may not operate properly, and you may not be able to use some of its features.

9.2.Mobile Identifiers

Mobile Identifiers are collected and used for as long as the HAPPN Application is installed on your device.

If you do not want HAPPN to collect and use your Mobile Identifiers, you should not install the HAPPN Application on your device.

With the exception of Tracking tools used for advertising purposes, all Tracking tools of the Application listed above are essential for the stable operation and use of the Services of the Application you have subscribed to.
