La Halle Tropisme
happners' hot spots
Rue Fontcouverte, a former army building turned into a workspace for around a hundred creative outfits, with a bar, a hall, and a courtyard open to everyone. From late July to late August it runs on a summer schedule that changes what the place is for: no lunch service, doors from 5pm, and an outdoor programme built around pétanque, car boot sales, apéro and music on a terrace big enough that nobody is sitting on top of anyone. Saturdays have their own night through to the end of August. It's a rare kind of venue: free to walk into, with something happening, and enough room that arriving alone doesn't read as anything in particular.

I needed a chair. He had four he couldn't shift.
Car boot sale on a Sunday. I was after one chair, he was selling four and hadn't sold any. We ended up at the bar instead. The chairs stayed in his boot.
