Despite the hype surrounding non-monogamy, the results show a generation that remains grounded in tradition: 55% of them identify themselves as strictly monogamous, and over half (53%) see no benefit in open relationships. This approach also comes with a harsh self-critique, as 36% of respondents view their own peers as disinterested in commitment and 30% describe their generation as fundamentally confused about love.

The survey also highlights a significant shift towards more intentional dating, in which clarity is the new currency of attraction. For Gen Z, transparency about what a person is looking for is now as important as physical appearance, with 34% prioritizing clear intentions when swiping. This craving for honesty is a direct response to modern "red flags": the most despised behavior is the intentional delay in replying to messages to appear disinterested (35%), followed closely by aggressive or prejudiced language, which is a dealbreaker for 35% of women. Consequently, the primary goal for these users is not necessarily a serious relationship or a casual hookup, but rather “no-pressure” connections (35%), allowing them to evolve organically.

Digital well-being is also a central pillar of Gen Z: nearly half of the respondents (47%) admit that social media negatively impacts their view of love since they can encourage toxic and idealized expectations. This digital fatigue might explain the cautious adoption of new technologies: while 83% have yet to integrate AI into their dating lives, many young users are using it as a relationship consultant. Rather than just generating pick-up lines, these users leverage AI to seek behavioral advice (47%) and use in-app tools to plan the Perfect Date (21%), showing a desire to use technology to bridge the gap between digital matching and real-world connection.

“These results show us a generation that is navigating a profound paradox: they are digitally overwhelmed yet deeply traditional in their core desires. Gen Z singles are very intentional about their choices and want their dating experience to remain transparent and profoundly human, prioritizing real-world accountability over the 'coolness' of new labels. At happn, we are committed to helping them rediscover these authentic and local connections”, says Karima Ben Abdelmalek, CEO and President of happn.
