Holiday romance, sunset flirting, meet-cutes with your feet in the sand… Every summer, beaches become the backdrop for the best Crushes. happn, the real-life dating app, reveals the beaches where singles have the best chances of finding their Crush. To keep these encounters carefree, happn is teaming up with THE SORORITY to launch the SafeBeachCrush guide, promoting respectful and safe encounters.

Crushing on the beach, yes — but safely!

While more than one in three singles (37%) say they've already fallen for a beach Crush, one in five also admit to having experienced an uncomfortable situation there — persistent staring (67%), overly heavy-handed flirting (59%), catcalling (38%). Faced with these situations, 15% of women say they don't know how to react, whether as a victim or a witness, and more than one in four (28%) say they know what to do but can't bring themselves to act.

With 45% of respondents saying they hesitate to go to the beach alone, Priscillia Routier, founder of THE SORORITY, points out that "no one is alone, and it's essential to reclaim public space with peace of mind. We want to help everyone take back their power, so they can fully enjoy the beaches, the nights out, and the wonderful encounters of this summer."

SafeBeachCrush: a guide to turning bystanders into allies

To encourage more respectful encounters, happn and THE SORORITY are launching the SafeBeachCrush guide, which brings together:

  • the right reflexes to adopt as a victim or witness;

  • tips for stepping in without putting yourself at risk;

  • useful resources provided by THE SORORITY;

  • essential reminders about consent, respect, and kindness.

An awareness campaign will also be rolled out directly within the happn app throughout the summer.

Claire Rénier, Communications Director at happn, says: "Summer is without a doubt the season most conducive to meeting people. Singles are more available, more relaxed, and spend more time outdoors, especially at the beach. This summer freedom should be experienced with kindness and respect, which is why we wanted to team up with THE SORORITY to give singles the best chance to make things happen... in real life and safely!"
