Sotaque Bar

Two friends turned a corner on the busy Protásio Alves into a place that welcomes every kind of person and accent. The bar wins you first with its space: the high ceiling and big windows make even the indoor tables feel like they're outside. Then it gets you through the stomach. The recipes are simple, made by a chef — think buraco quente and shrimp pastel. The star of the menu is called Abel Ferreira. Even if you don't support Palmeiras, you'll probably love the fritter that recalls the classic Portuguese salt-cod snack but comes stuffed with pork. Keep an eye on the schedule: sometimes there's live music or a little craft market.

Turns out we grew up two states apart.

We started talking about the Abel Ferreira fritter and realised we had completely different accents. Spent the rest of the night comparing words that mean the same thing back home. The bar's name suddenly made sense.
