La Sablière

La Sablière

happners' hot spots

Be clear about one thing: La Sablière isn't in Nantes, it's at Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire, on the metropolitan bus line, and the ride out is part of the evening. What you find there is a guinguette built for groups rather than for couples — long shared tables, wooden tiers facing the river, a pétanque pitch, and a bar with local beers and homemade lemonades at prices that don't sting. Some Thursday evenings there's a blind test, and there are live concerts a couple of times a month through the summer. That's the part to plan around: a blind test needs a team, and on a bench of that length your team is whoever is sitting next to you. Open every day from midday to 11pm until the end of August.

Same bench, so we made a team.

The blind test started and nobody around us had a full team. We counted ourselves: four people on the same bench who'd never spoken. We came third. I still don't know two of their surnames.
