La Boule Endoumoise
happners' hot spots
Above the Théâtre Silvain, in the Endoume neighbourhood, La Boule Endoumoise keeps its little pétanque paradise almost to itself: a shaded terrain, a good-natured, family feel, roughly ten lanes plus one for jeu provençal. Open to everyone, non-members included. You can grab a bite at midday and stay until early evening. If you show up early, there's no need to book. Nobody is performing here. People come to throw a few boules and talk between rounds, which turns out to be one of the easiest ways to start a conversation.

We got put on the same team without asking.
I turned up on my own to play. They were one short on the lane next to me and waved me over. We won, we lost, we argued about a point that was clearly mine. Nothing dramatic, just an afternoon that ran on longer than it should have.
