Atelier Mory
Rue Royale, Lyon 1st arrondissement. The premise is deliberately absurd: you're given a blank canvas and fluorescent paint, the lights go off, the music goes on. You paint in the dark, barely seeing anything. Under UV light, the colours reveal themselves, and your painting looks like... something. Maybe. What these small-group sessions create is a kind of total, funny equality. No one has an advantage over anyone else. The person who draws beautifully in daylight is just as lost as you. It puts people in a particular state, relaxed, a little playful, open. Turns out that's the best state to actually get to know someone.

We'd painted almost the exact same thing without coordinating.
When the lights came back on, we compared our canvases. We'd made almost exactly the same thing, same energy, same approximate colour range. We looked at each other like it was a joke. It wasn't a joke.
