What does "crossing paths" mean? What is the distance that qualifies as "crossing paths"?

The app considers that you have "crossed paths" with someone if your paths cross between 1 and 250m (850ft). The app keeps track of the number of times you have crossed path with someone each time you cross path with someone every 24 hours.
